Bianconi gelding Penang Hall filled out a winning day for Victoria in the Suisse Programme Hcp (1000m) in Hong Kong on Sunday.
Penang Hall won first-up with top weight of 60kg in a competitive Class 4 at Sha Tin. He clocked 56.95s down the straight under Joao Moreira to score by a neck over Happy Cooperation (Elusive City) and Excitable Boy (More Than Ready).
“I thought it was a pretty good win carrying a big weight and he was off the bit chasing a long way out,” trainer David Hall said. “He was also out in the middle of the track, and copped some interference at the start, so even though there wasn’t much of a margin in it, everything was against him and he still got the job done.”
Bianconi (USA) stands at Ridgeview Park in Muskerry East and his Hong Kong winner is the first foal of Susie Mine (Encosta de Lago) who won 10 races for trainer Brian Mueller.
Penang Hall won his maiden at Sha Tin in May but hoof issues restricted his progress last season. “The farriers have done a great job and have kept it under control,” Hall revealed. “We will stretch him over further next time.”
Hall bought the gelding for Mr & Mrs Chew Fook after he won a Strathalbyn trial in February 2014. His younger brother Kingsgrove won a Murray Bridge maiden for Mueller in July and they have a yearling half-sister by Noor Elaine Farm sire Oamaru Force.
