Bianconi stayer making up lost time for OTI Racing (TBV)

OTI Racing owners Terry Henderson and Simon O’Donnell are making up for lost time with their last-start winner Scherzoso. The Bianconi gelding was considered good enough for a crack at this year’s G1 South Australian Derby but he was in a paddock when the classic was run and won by Delicacy in May.

Trainer Tony McEvoy brought him back for a powerhouse victory in the United Discount Chemists Hcp (1600m) at Morphettville on Saturday. He came from the tail of the field to score by over a length running away from Rowdy Richard (Blevic).

“He has the style and rhythm of a good galloper,” McEvoy said. “I thought the 2500 metres of the SA Derby would have been within reach because he’s so strong on the line.”

Scherzoso (4g Bianconi – Cafe Del Mar by Encosta De Lago) was bred by OTI Racing and they raced his older brother Sunset Cafe to city wins up to 2400m at Sandown Hillside. Their dam Cafe Del Mar has a 2yo colt by Bianconi that was withdrawn from the Adelaide Magic Millions in March.

Bianconi (Danzig) has built up a 61% winning strike-rate in a stud career that’s still going strong at Ridgeview Park in Muskerry East. He will stand for a $5,500 (inc gst) fee this year. - See more at:
